In Loving Memory of Bob

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Robert Lindsay Hodgart, a dedicated advocate for local democracy and an esteemed member of the community. Bob's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to the betterment of his community.

Bob's dedication to the Southside community dates back to 2000, as he was a member of the first Southside Community Council. His journey in community service continued with the re-forming of the Southside Community Council in 2015, where he became a longstanding member until he passed away. Bob's passion for local democracy was evident in his active participation in meetings of the Edinburgh Association of Community Councils, where he represented the voices and concerns of the Southside community.

In addition to his community involvement, Bob was a distinguished researcher at the Institute of Geography and the Lived Environment at The University of Edinburgh. His academic pursuits centred around Geography, Locational Modeling, and the evolving political and cultural landscape of Scotland, with a particular focus on the late 19th century onwards.

Bob's legacy will live on through the positive changes he brought to his community and the knowledge he shared with the academic world. His dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to the causes he held dear will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In this time of sorrow, we extend our deepest condolences to Bob's family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Southside community. May his memory serve as an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the importance of active citizenship and the pursuit of knowledge for the betterment of society. Rest in peace, Bob. You will be dearly missed, but your impact will endure.

Daniel Fisher, SCC Chair.

Bob's funeral will take place at Mortonhall crematorium on Friday 29th September at 1.30 pm
