Southside Association report October 2018

  1. November Meeting

Nancy Jamieson, City Council Planning Department is coming to speak at the November meeting of the Southside Association. She will be talking about change of use application, particularly retail to restaurant, and the Planning Dept.'s attitude to these, and also Enforcement procedures and practice. Members of the Community Council are most welcome to attend - Tuesday, 6th November, 7:00 pm, South Side Community Centre.
  2. Roads Capital Programme

The SA has as yet heard nothing about the Roads Capital Programme for next year. There is a suggestion for a safe pedestrian crossing at the east end of Salisbury Road, probably by a small change to the phasing of the traffic lights. The SA would welcome help from the CC in encouraging the SE Locality team to make a decision about the future of the Roads Capital Programme.
  3. Christmas Event

The annual ceremony of switching on the Christmas Lights at St Patrick Square is to take place on Tuesday, 4th December at 6 pm, followed by a party in the South Side Community Centre. The Edinburgh University Musical Society and Preston Street Primary School choir will perform carols, Moira Gibson, former Edinburgh University head of External Affairs, will switch on the lights. This is always one of the most popular community events in the area, and the SA hope that members of the CC will be there.
  4. South East Locality Improvement Plan - Southside Corridor small area plan

The SA understands that the plan has been modified in the light of the first meeting (held in June), and that this is in lieu of minutes of that meeting. The SA has not been officially informed about this. There has been no intimation of further meetings.
