SCC CHAIR’S REPORT, for meeting of January 14, 2019

  1. Anti-fracking letter – following our support of the Shieldhill and California Community Council’s opposition to fracking, as discussed at the November meeting, and appropriate discussion by email, I indicated our support of a letter expressing opposition to fracking that was being sent to the Prime Minister by a collective called Frack Free United.

  2. Council 2019/20 Budget Consultation Event – I attended this event at Southside Community Centre on 28 November. It was an excellent event run by Council staff along the lines of a board game demonstrating in a very real fashion the difficult budget choices the Council is forced to make. It was also an opportunity to express personal preferences.

  3. Chicken Club – on Monday 3 December, I hand delivered an objection to a late hours catering licence application on behalf of the Chicken Club at 46 South Clerk Street.

  4. Summerhall – on January 6th, I emailed a note of objection to a late licence application and an application to adopt the amended amplified music policy from the Summerhall arts venue.

  5. Minute Secretary Recruitment - recruitment of a minute secretary has commenced. A job advert went live on the University jobs website on 3 January and already six notes of interest have been received. I hope to have a minute taker in place in time for the February meeting.

  6. Old Odeon Refurbishment – I emailed and received a thorough response from Stefan King of the G1 Group that is slowly refurbishing the old Odeon. Unfortunately there have been changes of staff at the top of this project management, for positive reasons. This will add further delays to the project and as yet, there is still no firm timetable for the work.
