Engagement Report June 2023

One of the main functions of the Community Council is to engage with members of the public in its area.
Over the past 12 months we have attempted to do that by:
-
Public attending our meetings – Now meetings are in person once again, members of the public have been able to attend our meetings and contribute to discussions. 20 members of the public have attended SCC meetings in the past 12 months, one of whom has been co-opted as a member.
-
Publishing a website – The website contains information about the CC, including details of upcoming meetings, minutes of meetings, and topics of interest to the community such as planning issues, consultations, etc. It can be found at www.sccedinburgh.org.uk. It also gives a list of members of the CC, and contact details.
-
Maintaining a mailing list – associated with the website is a list of about 120 email addresses of people who have expressed interest in being informed about the activities of the CC. Notices sent to the mailing list include intimation of forthcoming meetings, and an alert when the minutes of a meeting are published on the website.
-
Facebook page – Notices sent to the mailing list are also posted on Facebook. There are 334 followers of the SCC Facebook page.
-
Twitter account – We also tweet notices on Twitter where we have 31 followers.
-
Notice Board – We maintain a board on West Richmond Street, where details of upcoming meetings are published, and we have used the board to display minutes of some meetings, and publicise other interesting things in the area, currently a notice about Singing at the Charteris Centre.
-
In December we organised the Christmas Lights switch on event in St Patrick Square and after party in the Southside Community Centre. This was well attended by local people, and a good chance to engage informally.
-
We had a table at the Meadows Festival 2023. Although there were plenty of people at the Festival, we didn't find it a good engagement exercise.
-
We are engaged in talks with Unite Students, who have two student accommodation blocks in our area, to see how we can involve students resident there in more community activities.
