When Housing Costs Push Out Local Voices: Reflections from Southside

In the last few months, four members of the Southside Community Council have had to step down after being priced out of the area. Rising rents have made it increasingly difficult for residents – including active community volunteers – to remain in the neighbourhoods they committed to representing.

One of our former councillors has shared a short video reflecting on this experience and what it means for community participation in the Southside. You can watch it below.

These departures are a loss to the Council and to the wider community. They highlight how housing affordability is not only a social issue but one that affects local democracy and representation.

Southside Community Council continues to seek new members to help us represent local views and strengthen our community voice. If you are a Southside resident and would like to get involved, please get in touch at admin@sccedinburgh.org.uk
